The “Poor Man’s Tax Party” last month was very well attended by over 200 members and guests, some attired in raggedy clothes keeping with the theme.
The meatloaf and mashed potatoes served had many of us talking about how our mother’s used to make it. It was an inexpensive way to feed a big family.
The barbershop quartet entertained with some oldies, and then had us singing along too. Also, the centerpieces were handmade pink piggy banks with money sticking out. The money looked so real.
Thanks to all those members that made this such a fun event: You all know how to throw a great party!
1st row: Charlotte Orren, Judy Hirsch, Idelle Roth, Steve Hirsch, Glenn Orren
2nd row: Chris Yahng, Joe Tracy, Esta Podberesky , Richard Roth,
Elaine Kutler, Bernie Podberesky, Joanne Tracy
Cinco de Mayo, May 3rd, 5:30 p.m. at the Event Center
Last month’s Cinco de Mayo event was a great success. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the band. The margaritas, beer, tacos bar and lots of other Mexican food filled us up deliciously. It takes a lot of members to put on one of our monthly parties for over 200.
Thank you to all those who made it happen:
Chair, Katherine Cheema; AlanSwanson; Jan & Gene Widdel; Karen & Jerry Mikuls; Vicky Lucas; Larry Jensen; Elaine & Kris Kimball; Joanne & Gayl Thorne; Nancy & Mike Conrad; Helen & Duane Carroll; Merrie Bailey; Tom Hanson; and Board Info Coordinators, Carol Caputo & Rich Schlenker.
You all know how to throw a great party!
Here are some great pictures from the Event.
For more information, contact Katherine Cheema at (925)216-9405.
The Bocce and Italian dinner event last weekend was very fun. Lots of members enjoyed playing Bocce, and many of us got to play more than one game. It was a warm day, but we stayed cool under the pop-up shades and umbrellas courtesy of the Bocce Club.
Then we went inside to have our wine and food, which was generous and delicious.
It takes so many members to make an event like this happen. The Club wants to thank event Chairwoman Ann Peterson, Board Information Coordinator, Elaine Thompson, and the many members who volunteered to help with this event: Brock Arner; Gil & Lynn Baird; Susan Day; Bruce Freeland; Kathy & Bob Johnson; Drue & Phil Kramer; Matt & Joann Matthews; Allen & Sherie Pedersen; Jacklynn Roenspie; John Shaw; John & Janine Walkinshaw; Floyd & Gery Yearout and so many others that monitored the Bocce play.
You all did a great job. We wouldn’t have great parties without all of our volunteers.
The final scramble for the season will be Saturday, October 5th with a 2:00 p.m. start time.
NOTE this is 1/2 hour earlier due to shorter days.
Check in at 1:30 to pay greens fee and rent cart if needed.
The usual Pizza Happy Hour will be at Dollar Picnic Grounds following play.
Bring your own beverage of choice.
Since we have excess funds in the treasury the cost will be only $15.00 per couple.
Send your check to Linda Spiegelman, 3520 Rossmoor Parkway, #1 E7 by Saturday, September 28th.
Sign ups are limited to 32 couples so get your checks in early.
Thank you Joan & Frank Alosi and Holly & Roger Bass for volunteering to arrange the Happy Hour.
This activity is a social mixer for Couples Club golf couples.
Play is a non competitive scramble that uses the Twilight format.
Pairings are done by the golf shop staff.
Each foursome should sit together for dinner.
Oldies but Goodies, Monday, July 22rd, 5:30 p.m., Event Center
172 Couples Club guests were greeted by Classic Cars provided by:
Rick Cox (1978 Mercedes 300D), Jay Kline (1951 MG) and Mary Ellen Ratcliff (1939 Chevrolet Business Coupe).
Not only Vintage cars but bowls made out of records and old 45’s covered the tables decorated by Charlotte Orren.
Larry Ruff produced a video demonstrating different dance styles through the decades.
Creekside catered the event with hors d’ oeuvres of pigs in a blanket, baked potato skins, and flatbread pizza. A diner-style buffet dinner included beef and chicken sliders, macaroni and cheese with truffle glaze, potato fries, onion rings, and salad. Dessert was an ice cream Sunday bar and cookies.
After dinner, DJ Terry Newberry got the crowd rockin’ and rollin’ with music from the ’40s to the ’80s.

The Couples Club of Rossmoor is presenting a Cabaret on Friday, September 20, 2019 in the Donner Room at the Event Center at 7 p.m. The evening will start with signature cocktails: Kir Royale, French wines or non-alcoholic sparkling drinks. If you wish you may bring your own beverage.
Girards Catering will pass a variety of appetizers during the cocktail and social time including savory cream puffs filled with smoked salmon, cream cheese, orange zest and dill; warm French garlic bread with caramelized onions; lemon zested bruschetta with an artichoke, parmesan, sundried tomato and basil topping; roast beef French dips served in small sourdough bowls with Provolone and cabernet au jus; chicken Cordon Bleu served on puff pastry squares with ham and Swiss cheese; and marble rye rounds topped with melted brie, roasted grapes, walnut, and arugula.
At 8 pm members will be seated at tables in the Tahoe Room in a cabaret-like setting, to enjoy performances by Duo Gadjo: Isabelle Fontaine and Jeff Magidson, and the Golden Follies.
Duo Gadjo’s music is inspired by the sounds of the ’20s and ’30s when jazz was the thing and Paris was the place to be. Their style is generally called ‘French Cafe’ and their repertoire spans from Bal-Musette to Edith Piaf, and Serge Gainsbourg. They accompany themselves on guitars and the Melodica, but the real feature is Isabelle Fontaine’s sultry vocals.
The Golden Follies is a fast-paced Las Vegas-style revue, featuring performers ages 55 and over, strutting their stuff to musical sounds from nostalgia to today’s hottest sounds. These talented artists are adorned in gorgeous, colorful costumes, execute stylish choreography and set the stage on fire with their tapping feet.
They have been performing their stylized musical and dance revues for many years and have appeared at the Paramount Theatre, The Town Hall in Lafayette, and dozens of other locations.
The Directors and originators of The Golden Follies are a sister team, Diane Stawicki and Susan Bostwick. They have used their extensive performance background in dance to choreograph the shows as well as design the costumes, arrange music and concepts. They have performed throughout the US and Europe.\
At the conclusion of the show, a platter of little sweets cookies will be served along with a bottle of champagne to complete the evening. Decaf coffee and tea will also be available in the Donner Room.
The cost for the evening is $30 per member and $40 per guest of members. Send checks, payable to Couples Club of Rossmoor, to Gerda Peterson at 2625 Ptarmigan, No. 4, Entry 16. Reservation checks must be received by Friday, September 6 with no refunds or cancellations after the cut-off date.
It is advisable to get your check in early. Club members always have priority for an event until the cut-off date. Guests of single members have the same priority as members and pay member cost. Other guests are accommodated on a space available basis and in the order by date their check was received.
The event will be open seating. For more information, contact Kathy Johnson on 925-300-3754 or email@example.com.
